Own Your Power!

All of the following is from the book, A People's History of the United States, aby Howard Zinn

"The American system is the most ingenious system of control in world history. With a country so rich in natural resources, talent, and labor power the system can afford to distribute just enough wealth to just enough people to limit discontent to a troublesome minority.

One percent of the nation owns a third of the wealth. The rest of the wealth is distributed in such a way as to turn those in the 99 percent against one another: small property owners against the propertyless, black against white, native-born against foreign-born, intellectuals and professionals against the uneducated and unskilled. These groups have resented one another and warred against one another with such vehemence and violence as to obscure their common position as sharers of leftovers in a very wealthy country.

How skillful to tax the middle class to pay for the relief of the poor building resentment on top of humiliation! How adroit to bus poor black youngsters into poor white neighborhoods, in a violent exchange of impoverished schools, while the schools of the rich remain untouched and the wealth of the nation, doled out carefully where children need free milk, is drained for billion-dollar aircraft carriers. How ingenious to meet the demands of blacks and women for equality by giving them small special benefits, and setting them in competition with everyone else for jobs made scarce by an irrational, wasteful system. How wise to turn the fear and anger of the majority toward a class of criminals--bred by economic inequity--faster than they can be put away, deflecting attention fro the huge thefts of national resources carried out within the Law by men in executive offices.

But despite all the controls of power and punishment, enticements and concessions, diversions and decoys, operating throughout the history of the country, the Establishment has been unable to keep itself secure from revolt. Every time it looked as if it had succeeded, the very people it thought seduced or subdued, stirred and rose.

To recall this is to remind people of what the Establishment would like them to forget--THE ENORMOUS CAPACITY OF APPARENTLY HELPLESS PEOPLE TO RESIST!" (Boldface mine)

If we stop obeying the system fails.

That will happen, only when all of us are slightly privileged and slightly uneasy begin to see that we are like the guards in the prison uprising at Attica--expendable."

We need to stop working for the government and work for ourselves. We need to accept the fact that our officials are not going to do the right thing and do it ourselves. Oh, don't worry. I know I'm only dreaming but it's too bad that we can't understand that.... We the people are the ones who have the power.......If only we knew it.

An accurate analysis.

Not juast of the US, but of the western world.

But not for much longer.

It's falling apart now, because the system really can't do it any more.
The fiat money illusion is over...

Amen!
I find it incredible we accept government removing itself from business; stepping aside and letting it be practically a law unto itself. That’s what has being happening since the Regan and Thatcher era.
The Republicans and the Democrats of America indeed Europe. Business has been running Finland for quite some time now and they are making a complete mess of it Sweden too has become more business/right wing. Funny how business and right wing politics go hand in hand. The rich get richer and as they do they need more laws to protect their wealth as people ee their prospects become less and less as the economy gets seemingly gets better and better but somehow there never seems to be enough.
Prosperity brings little, and economic slow down brings even less.
I’ll say no more. We know the story now. There’s no going back.

Geez, I will have to read this a few times to get the drift of it.

All of the following is from the book, A People's History of the United States,

Haven't I pointed out to you before that Americans have always written history to suit what they wanted it to look like?

Great Post! That book sounds like it hit's the mark. People do need to resist by peacefully not playing the damn game. It is a game of control...

I am in total agreement. The American people are a sleeping giant. It's time to wake up and own up to personal power.

I am hoping that the deep rage so many of us feel will translate into change by US, not a politician.

I know you, like me, are interested in the occult. There are essential oils and herbs that are geared toward realization of personal power. That has many connotations from success to self-awareness, but when so many are asleep, you have to start somewhere.

Kick--ass post! Love it.

I have a series of 24 books about the settling of this country that is pretty darn factual.

Oh, about the only oils I'm interested in is cooking oils, motor oils, and those oils that you spread around on a woman's body.

Crushed-I'm scared...especially for my kids.

MM-There is a chinesecurse that I have always thought was very pithy and applies so well to our time, maybe we are cursed. It is "May you live in interesting times....." Bwah ha ha

Hillbilly-On fox news right now they are saying that this is happening because of laws that romoved discrimination from the loaning practices. In a round about way they are saying that this is happening because of poor people, particularly blacks and hispanics. They don't come out and say it, but I know what they mean. They don't want us to figure out that we are all the same. Of course, if we ever rose up they would probably mow us down with machine guns.

Enemy-I think people are going to wake up. Look at what happened after the depression, which led all the way to the sixties. They got us quiet during the 80's by making lots of people rich and now we are back to the 30's again. Maybe it's a karmic cycle and we won't break out of it until we get it right.

I'll have to read more about the essential oils. I know about them of curse, but haven't gone too deep into reading about them.

BBC-Have a good weekend.

Good post. We need big protests again.

Everytime the MSM speaks; it is only to say it is OUR fault. They do have long term population control directives. We aren't suppossed to be here in their eyes any ways!!!

It would be futile for violence against their weaponry, but to stand up peacefully...Well, I'd gladly fall for that, without any regret.

My brother, a hard core Republican, contended many years ago, the welfare class FDR created was part of the plan. Most of the rebellion type trouble always started in the ghettoes where the poor congregated he said. By creating Welfare, the poor were given just enough to keep them from rebelling and at the same time, by cashing the checks, keeping tabs on them was no problem. Howard must have met my brother.

I have not read his history yet. It sounds like my kind of book.

it is always easy to control a group of people arguing amongst themselves.

communist ideology contends that the class struggle is necessary and that eventually it will end and that then we will find a worker`s utopia.

promises, promises.

the one`s who really control society are the one`s who control the money supply.

hint; it`s not the government.

Was you thinking about that when you had them? Well it's to late now. They will just have to deal with what they have to deal with.

And I don't think it will be pretty so it is up to you to prepare them for that instead of painting a rosy picture and telling them it will be okay.

They can deal with it better if you don't bullshit them about it.

my brother said to me yesterday, "people are starting to see that the emporer's clothes are threadbare, but they haven't got him down to his underwear yet." once we see that he's naked, will the pigeons finally roost? or will we be too busy watching american idle?

I now understand why the UK government have illegally pushed through certain criminal justice bills over the years banning us from protesting or marching against the govt - because we have great cause to! Where I'm from (crumbling UK) I am astonished at how complacent and docile people have become - as if accepting anything is ok. It is a criminal IN-justice on our society as far as I am concerned. Where's our gumption gone? I shall stop rambling now and go and do something useful like take to the streets inciting people to stand up for themselves!! ;-) xx

Unknown said...

This is what I mean. They are using fear to keep us docile. Now I'm not calling for a violent rebellion but this should be a call for people to get more involved in what our government does and say enough is enough. Call congress, start rallies, vote the idiots that let this stuff slide out of office. The people have tremendous power if they just stopped worrying about american Idol for a second. Maybe now that they see their bottom line hurt, the sleeping giant will awake?

This is a shakedown. the bailout passed and the market still went down. AIG threw a party that cost a ton of money for it's so called, top earners. This was after we gave them tons of cash to stay alive. Then, the government turned around and gave them MORE MONEY!!

Sinking billions of Tax dollars is NOT going to solve this problem. All this is doing is enabling them to stay the course. And the course sucks. I thought the market was resilient and able to take care of itself without government intervention. Guess not.

I'm not sure why I fuss about it all. I'm doing just fine over here. And I will continue to do just fine because I don't need a lot.
