R rollls

Were you aware that not everyone can roll their R's? My sister can't, my daughter, one of my nieces and my nephew can't. My other niece can. As for myself--I can roll my r's like there is no tomorrow.

I am very proud of my R rolling ability. I can hold my roll for 16 beats. I can r roll at the beginning, middle and end of a word. I can roll up and down 2 octaves. I'm an exceptional r roller.

So, it was much to my chagrin that I found out that my r rolling would not be appreciated by the Spanish speaking community. Not only would it not be appreciated but I was in danger of making a complete ass out of myself if I rolled at the wrong time. I have to tell you, I was mortified as all the times I had so proudly r rolled went through my mind. I saw it all in a new light, realizing that what I thought were looks of wonder on the faces of people I had so proudly r rolled in front of were probably actually attempts not to laugh.

It is acceptable to roll at the beginning of a word, but not in the middle or the end. You can occasionally roll in the middle if the word has 2 rs. Even if you roll at the beginning, you risk sounding affected and artificial. There are many rules that I was not aware of, to numerous to recount.

So, I've given up r rolling. I can't remember the rules and I don't want anyone to laugh at me, but I feel like something beautiful has ended. Once again, my special talents go unappreciated. What can I do? Do you have any suggestions?

Hey, it's been a long time (I've been bad about blogger). R Rolling! Ha, yeah, I can do it, but not well. You sort of need a bit of saliva at the back of your mouth that you sort of... Gurgle... To do it. Kinda gross, I imagine it could lead to some gross disasters for amateurs too ;)

I can only do the short roll.

Like (from Braveheart): The Bruce is not to be harmed! That is the arrangement!" (Imagine that in a gawd awful scottish accent)

The long ones are, well, they're impossible for me. I wish I had your talent for r rolling. I love doing voices and impersonations and that would really add to it immensely.

Thanks for checking in on me! I knew you were good people back when I first met you. You and the many others who patiently waited for me made me feel really good, you know? I didn't realize I'd be missed that much, but hey, it's nice to be wrong, especially about things like that.

As for writing your posts, write short if you want to, write long if you want to, don't worry about restricting yourself. Besides, even a small subject can lead to a huge disscusion. And you do a lot of your writing in comment boxes.

I look forward to catching up with you some more. Take care!

When in doubt, I go with the soft French 'r.'

Drumrolls are more my thing, actually.

Here in Finland they roll to beat the band, and I would say to you just keep on rolling.
I can't roll mine.

Trevor-I've been a bad blogger too. But you have to admit, r rolling is not as bad for accidentally hacking all over someone as the ach's in German.

Eric-I'm so glad your back when you don't see someone for awhile, you start to worry about them. So, your okay...good!

Benji-You mean, they wouldn't laugh at me? that would be great.

X-Yes, maybe if I tone it down a bit, the won't notice and I can quietly have fun.

BBC-That's okay...I haven't been visiting people either. Blogging can be hard to keep up with sometimes.

Sean-Really? I thought you would be able to. Well, if they let me roll whenever I want and don't put limits on me, then I will learn Finnish

I can roll my r's.
I just can't speak English.

So says the Brit.
*rolling eyes*

I'm MUCH better at rollin' my eyes than I am my r's. LOL

Happy Easter wishes, ma'am!

why can't u be original...just because people close accounts or stop blogging you have to go and do the same

it doesnt take more than 5 minutes to post and the excuse of "being busy" and "have no topic" is overused
